What to expect?
Grant African Methodist Episcopal Church strives to set a Christian example in the City of Boston by reaching people where they are; relating them to Jesus Christ, nurturing them as disciples, and sending them back out to make the community more loving and just. We are a diverse congregation seeking to enhance the spiritual growth and development for people of all ages. We consider Grant Church to be large enough to share – small enough to care.
Grant Church has been located in the South End Community for 57 years. We are a Bible-based, God-directed, Christ-centered and Spirit-led Church teaching and preaching the Word of God for all of his people. As a church family, we endeavor to grow in spiritual understanding and character and become better equipped to serve both God and our fellow man. Jesus saith unto him,
“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” John 14:6.
You are encouraged to attend one of our Sunday morning worship services, special events, or join in the various programs we have to serve the members of Grant Church and the Greater Boston community-at-large.
What is the worship service like?
Immediately upon entering the sanctuary, you will be met at the door by a member of our Usher Board Ministry and enthusiastically greeted by one of our Evangelists. Next, you’ll be drawn forward by the spiritual anointing that emanates from our talented Music Ministry. You’ll experience keyboardists, guitarists, saxophonist, drummers and vocalists setting the atmosphere and invoking the presence of the Lord. Since everyone worships in his or her own unique manner, you may see worshippers with their hands raised, their eyes opened or closed, some singing loudly while others are humming, and others are clapping and jumping. Just let go and let God have his way!
Grant Church considers all visitors guests and treats them as such. During the service, we will ask you to stand and introduce yourself and take a moment to share a few words to the congregation if you desire to do so. Immediately followed by an informal meet and greet by the membership seated around you. We encourage you to meet the Pastor and Ministerial staff before you depart.
Do I have to dress up?
No you don’t. We encourage people to dress comfortably, but respectfully. For some, that may mean dressing up, but for others it may mean wearing casual clothes. Come as you are!
What is the preaching style like?
At Grant Church, we have a divine mandate to share the Word of God in its truest form. Rev. Dr. Alvan N. Johnson Jr is a spiritually anointed, dynamic, preaching and teaching man of God who goes to great lengths to ensure the message is delivered using the Old and New Testament scriptures. He visually paints a picture of the time-period before applying it to today’s standard of living. The message is conveyed in love; leaving the worshiper feeling empowered, hopeful, and refreshed.
Is childcare available?
